Description

Prior to the outbreak of the global pandemic customers were already pushing for the “Amazonation” of alcohol. With the advance of COVID-19 the trend toward receiving alcohol at your doorstep has been accelerated. Through this course we will walk through the various options for appeasing these consumers’ needs under the current laws and regulations, and the challenges that remain to meeting consumer demand.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Gain an understanding of the basic options and restrictions for direct to consumer shipping of distilled spirits
2. Develop an appreciation for the “drinks to go” movement under COVID-19
3. Understand other alternate delivery methods

  • Alva Mather

    Alva Mather is head of McDermott Will & Emery's Alcohol Regulatory & Distribution Group and focuses her practice on alcohol beverage and cannabis regulatory and commercial matters. She represents companies in the alcohol beverage industry, including brewers, distillers, wineries, importers and retailers. Additionally, she works with clients in the growing cannabis space and has in-depth knowledge of the evolving legal and regulatory issues facing this industry.

    A nationally recognized lawyer, Alva combines her extensive knowledge of the commercial and legal landscape as well as deep understanding of the beverage industry to help clients mitigate risk, respond to challenges, and capture and pursue new business opportunities. Her work spans a number of traditional areas of legal practice that affect alcohol beverage and cannabis companies, including litigation, intellectual property, trade and tax.
    Alva frequently writes and speaks on alcohol and cannabis regulatory matters. During law school, Alva served as the articles editor for the University of Pennsylvania Law Review.

  • Christine Dower

    Christine is a litigation and regulatory compliance attorney who concentrates her practice within the Alcohol Beverage and Cannabis Industries.

    As a member of the Firm’s Chambers-ranked Alcohol Regulatory & Distribution Group, Christine counsels industry clients on trade practice investigations and compliance, licensing requirements, distribution agreements, dispute resolution, as well as helping clients navigate and comply with complex federal regulations and state statutes. Prior to specializing in alcohol beverage law, Christine practiced in civil litigation, representing Fortune 500 companies in a variety of complex commercial and product liability matters. Christine draws on her extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, including arbitration, trial and appellate work in state and federal courts, in her representation of clients in breach of contract disputes as well as administrative actions brought by the Federal Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) and state agencies.
